725 Invades National

by Eric K. Jackson

At this year's Congressional Breakfast, we not only got the chance to do what was most important ( lobby our Congressman for Letter Carrier issues ), we also got the chance to take a tour of the national officer's "digs".

We arrived at the National Headquarters early for the annual post Capitol Hill rap session. While waiting for the rap session to get going, Branch 725 President Jim McCullough suggested we meet some of the people that work for us. So he took us on a tour of each national officer's workplace. "So, this is where it all happens" a letter carrier said as we arrived in the newly renovated offices of national President Bill Young.

We met his secretary. She was very nice and open to show us the office and answered any of our questions. We also got a chance to pick Bill Young out of a picture of his from (maybe) high school. It was very hard. Only Bob Zigmont was able to identify him.

The tour was an unexpected pleasant surprise. It's nice to know that those who work for the union have not forgotten where they came from. For example. Most of the support staff were former letter carriers and branch officers from all over the country. It definately added to an otherwise day of serious discussion and contemplation.
